The Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology provides a forum for the publication of papers relating to the various aspects of photobiology, as well as a means for communication in this multidisciplinary field. The scope includes: • Bioluminescence • Chronobiology • DNA repair • Environmental photobiology. Photobiology is the scientific study of the beneficial and harmful interactions of light (technically, non-ionizing radiation) in living organisms. The field includes the study of photophysics, photochemistry, photosynthesis, photomorphogenesis, visual processing, circadian rhythms, photomovement, bioluminescence, and ultraviolet radiation effects. The division between ionizing radiation and.

Click on the title to browse this issue. Photobiology is a large discipline that includes studies of both the beneficial and harmful effects of light. It covers topics from the atomic level to that of ecological communities. Photobiologists use all of the tools of science to study the chemical and biological effects of light and other non-ionizing radiation.

This book has been written as a textbook to introduce the science of photobiology to advanced undergraduate and graduate students. The chapters are written to provide a broad overview of each topic. They are designed to contain the amount of information that might be presented in a one-to two-hour general : Paperback. Minobu Kasai is a professor at Hirosaki University in Japan. He received his PhD degree from the University of Tokyo. His main research and papers are concerned with environmental physiology of higher plants, including soybean, and are mainly summarized in a chapter in A Comprehensive Survey of International Soybean Research () and a mini-review in Trends in Photochemistry and Photobiology.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a well-established treatment option in the treatment of certain cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions.

Though best-known for its application in tumor therapy, historically the photodynamic effect was first demonstrated against bacteria at the beginning of the 20th century.

Photobiology research plays a direct role in diverse fields, and a glance at the topics of the symposia covered in this book by over articles shows the breadth and depth of knowledge acquired in fundamental research and its impact on the major issues and applied problems the world is facing.

Photobiology integrates a wide variety of scientific disciplines. As more people become aware of the many ways light interacts with chemical and biological systems, the need for a concise treatment of photobiology has become more critical.
